Will we make our dog neurotic?

My husband and I have an 18 wheeler rig. His friend is giving us a Chihuahua puppy at the end of the year. My husband wants to take the dog with us on our hauls but I think the trucks engine would scare the poor thing. Every time I see a Chihuahua they are always shaking and look like they're going to jump out of their skin. I don't want to take the dog on our trips if it's going to make the poor thing neurotic. What do you think? Our baby pup would be well taken care of but I'm not sure about this one. Many truckers have their dogs with them and the dogs seem to love it. But if the noise of the truck would scare my dog to death I won't take him. Do you think he'll get used to the noise of the truck?
